Roofing Problems In Jacksonville, Florida? 1-800-Roofcare Can Help!

A roof that is in need of repair or replacement can cause great harm to the structure of a home. When you see that the roof of your home is damaged or simply old and worn, contact 1-800-Roofcare in Jacksonville, Florida to resolve your roofing concerns.  In Jacksonville, the heat of our summers coupled with our afternoon downpours, our hurricanes and tropical storms in the fall, and our seemingly endless sunshine throughout the rest of the year, all greatly influence our roof systems. These weather conditions create a challenge for homeowners to maintain secure and watertight roofing systems.

When do we know that it is time for a roof replacement?

Every time that you do a visual inspection of your home it is important to include a visual inspection of your roof. Every season of the year in Florida presents challenges to the integrity of your roof. Here are some telltale signs that your roof may be nearing the end of its serviceability:

  • Asphalt Shingles – Many of our homes in Jacksonville rely upon asphalt shingles to create a secure barrier to keep water from penetrating our roofs. These currently are made by adding a layer of asphalt to the surface of a fiberglass mat, or a mat made of recycled felt paper. Even today’s advanced shingles can usually provide only fifteen to twenty years of service. If the shingles on your roof have passed the fifteen-year mark, then you need to watch them carefully. They will become more brittle and tear more easily in high winds. The outer layer of colored granules will be worn a way, leaving patches of black on the service of your roof. Most importantly, if you see the edges of your shingles beginning to curl, it will not be long before you will start to experience leaks in your roofing system. Contact 1-800-Roofcare for an estimate and an inspection.
  • Tiles – Tile roofing systems are common in our area. If properly installed, using quality materials, a tile roof can last up to fifty years. During that time it is important that foot traffic be limited on the tiles. People walking on the roof, impact from debris, and hurricane winds are the biggest dangers to your tile roof. Footsteps and debris will crack the tiles and allow water to penetrate the first level of protection. The water will then start to work at wearing away the rolled asphalt roof covering that is found under many tile roofs. Hurricane winds will seek out the weakest tiles of a roof and try to dislodge the tile. Whenever you see a broken, loose, or missing tile in your roof, contact a roofing specialist. When there are numerous tiles that have cracks in them, you may be nearing the time for a new roof. Contact 1-800-Roofcare before water is able to penetrate into your home.
  • Flat Roof Systems – The outer layer of a flat roof system may be made of Polyvinyl Chloride, Thermoset synthetic rubber, or rolled asphalt roofing sealed with hot tar. The first two systems are often glued directly to an underlayment that is placed over the boards or plywood that make up your roof. Traffic on the roof as well as objects such as nails or screws that are left on the surface can create holes in the surface material. If you find that there are areas where the surface has bubbles or ridges, these could become problems in the future. For some reason your roofing material has come loose from the surface. These problem spots often are the first areas to create leaks. Rolled asphalt roofing will become brittle over time, and will shrink in the hot Florida sun. Cracks in the tar that was used to seal the pieces together will usually be the first areas where you will experience problems. Often times, roofing specialists can reseal these areas, preventing future problems. To be certain that your roofing problem is handled correctly, contact us.
